Hemorrhage Control

Chatham CERT October 2018

Hurricane Florence was the first real test of CERT in Chatham County. Thanks to everyone who prepared their families and neighborhoods, and a particular thank you to every CERT and others who volunteered their time to support the Emergency Operations Center in Pittsboro, who helped set up and take down shelters, who moved emergency supplies, and who worked at the North Carolina shelter in Orange County. Great Job!

October CERT Meeting

This month’s CERT meeting is on October 24 at 6:30 PM at the Emergency Operations Center, 297 West Street, Pittsboro. Our class will focus on hemorrhage control, sometimes called stop-the-bleed. This is a very important skill for anyone who might be called on to save a life in an accident or disaster.

Amateur Radio Class

Are you interested in becoming a ham radio operator? Amateur radio training classes started last week. Classes are Saturdays from 9 AM to noon at the Emergency Operations Center, 297 West Street, Pittsboro. Classes will be held on two more consecutive weekends. The radio license test will be given starting at 9 AM on October 27 at the same location. The test is open for all levels of amateur radio license, regardless of whether you attended the class or not.

501(c)3

Chatham CERT is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. What does that mean? Donations of items or funds to the organization are tax deductible to the donor.

CERT reading list

This month’s book is a self-training book on navigation, and it is a classic: Finding Your Way Without Map or Compass, by Gatty.
