August CERT meeting – SKYWARN

  • Have you ever wondered why the schools close when they do for winter storms?
  • How does Chatham County decide when to close roads for ice or flooding?
  • Should I take shelter from that cloud on the horizon?

For these questions and more, get answers at the August CERT meeting. We are conducting SKYWARN training. Learn about weather! Will that cloud produce a tornado? How much flooding can I expect? How do I let someone know of hail or icing at my location? Weather impacts our lives every day. Come to the August CERT meeting and learn about weather, clouds, different types of precipitation, how to keep yourself safe and how to help your community. Our August instructor will be Virginia Enzor, the Central Carolina SKYWARN Emergency Coordinator. Check out the SKYWARN website at https://www.weather.gov/rah/skywarn.

Another book for the CERT reading list

If you’d like a true story of an unfolding disaster, read Five Days at Memorial, by Sheri Fink. This tells the story of Memorial Medical Center in New Orleans during and after Hurricane Katrina. It is a ‘must read’ for anyone interested in emergency preparation and recovery.

Have a safe and prepared August!
