Chatham CERT November 2018
First was Florence, then Michael, and now the National Weather Service is predicting normally-cold temperatures and a wetter than normal winter for our area. Are you ready?
November CERT Meeting
This month’s CERT meeting is on November 28 at 6:30 PM at the Emergency Operations Center, 297 West Street, Pittsboro. Our class this month will focus on what we all need to do to be prepared for emergencies in winter weather: local experts will present short classes on winter weather preparedness, winter driving skills, home security when we are on vacation, cold-weather injuries, influenza, and small and large animal winter health. We will also have a presentation of items you might want to consider keeping in your vehicles during the colder weather in North Carolina. As always, everyone is welcome and there is no cost.
New Amateur Radio Operators
Congratulations to our seven new ham radio operators! We now have five newly licensed Technicianand two General Class operators who took their license exam in October.
If you are interested in having another meal (ham, get it?) with local amateur radio operators, a radio club meets every Saturday morning at 8:30 AM in Virlie’s Restaurant, Pittsboro. Everyone is welcome.
CERT reading list
This month’s CERT book is Lights Out by Ted Koppel. Once an EMP skeptic, Koppel now writes about the fragility of our nation’s electrical grid.
